Approved (moved: Ruth; seconded: Chrissie)

3) Financial Report: Chrissie

$6,661.90 in the SABDA account as of March 31, 2009.

Chrissie wonders about our contribution to the Little Bit Out There festival, to which we write cheques for $1000 but seem only to get a refund of $500. ACTION: Marcelle will check with Penny about monies that are still outstanding.

Report adopted (moved: Chrissie; seconded: Marcelle)

4) Business arising from last meeting:

  1. Cell Phone Coverage—Loreto has no news.

  2. High Speed Internet—Ernie is absent so we don't have his report, but there is a pole waiting to be put up at N.D. Carmichael's that should bring Seaside Cable high speed to the Tarbot area.

  3. Emergency Plan—Aaron and Lisa Finney had Barry Campbell speak at the Seniors' Lunch last month. As a result, several firemen are going to a course in Baddeck in May about emergency planning.

  4. Education Programs—Harold arranged for Abraham and Marcus Bona to do a course on small engines, and Dennis Laffan to do one on chain saw maintenance. Lisa Finney organized a Seniors Lunch talk on Community Services and Homecare. Marcelle has arranged for two GPS days on the 23rd and 30th of April.

  5. Coastal Strategy—Ruth has researched.  ACTION: Ruth will continue, with an eye toward a speaker for our fall AGM.

  6. List of people available for casual work—Loreto has had one response from possible workers. A suggestion was made that she list jobs people want done instead, with the idea that those who want to do the work can contact those who have work to be done. A discussion around liability ensued, as well as the inability of some people to access the site.

ACTION: Loreto will speak to Aliant about the latter problem and will check with Andy Watt or Murray Hannem about the former.

  7. Down-facing Lights—Andy was not here to update us, although there have been reports in the paper about the province converting lights to LED at a new plant that will make them.

  8. Mining Issues—Aaron has been and will continue to be on top of this folder.

  9. Mushroom Foray—Marcelle emailed Earlene and explained our policy on giving money, and offered our support as an umbrella for the Foray, if she would like.

  10. Relearning Skills—Loreto put a new page on the SABDA web site, but has received little response.  ACTION: Loreto will advertise this web page in the Coummunity Events sheet.

  11. Supporting Immigrants—Aaron checked with Mark Eyking's office, and Marcelle's application for a permanent foreign employee was accepted. Marcelle also signed a letter to Sandy Hudson in support of Barb Weinberg's immigration.

5) New Business: none.

6) Next Board Meeting: Tuesday 15 September 2009, 7:00 pm.
ACTION: Marcelle will confirm space with Lisa.

Meeting Adjourned.
