Background

In 1994, the St. Ann's Bay Development Association conducted a survey of households in the St. Ann's Bay area, asking questions suggested by community organisations and individuals. That initial survey provided SABDA with information on:

  • small businesses existing in the area
  • concerns of the residents
  • suggestions on how to improve services
  • requests for new services and programmes
  • an inventory of the St. Ann's Bay Community

The survey demonstrated that residents shared a common thought: to survive the 1990s and on into the 21st century, our traditionally independent smaller communities must become one unified community with a much larger and more powerful voice. SABDA's first Strategic Plan for Community Social and Economic Development, drawn in 1994 and revised in 1996, is based on this 1994 survey.

Updating the Data—2008

With changing demographics in the St. Ann's Bay Community, SABDA reviews the Strategic Plan from time to time. In the summer of 2008, we asked residents to respond to the same eleven survey questions first asked in 1994, to see how the community's goals had changed (or not), and how the changing world had impacted those goals.

The 2008 survey was distributed to all households in the St. Ann's Bay community, and was also made available on line, aknowledging the community's newly widespread access to the Internet. You can still read the survey questions we used in 1994 and 2008.

A New Survey—2016

SABDA again surveyed the community in the spring of 2016, this time with a new set of questions.

The 2016 survey was distributed to the community via a link to a web-based poll. The link was made available in the Events sheet, and by posters hung in or distributed to various community sites and organisations. You can view the survey questions here.
